Master of Arts in Educational Technology

With the completion of my M.A. I learned to see with greater focus the aspects of Educational Technology, Instructional Design School, and Classroom Innovations that engage me.

Spring 2013

CEP 810 Teaching for Understanding with Technology.

Instructors:

Creigh McMichael

Leigh Wolf

Application and integration of productivity tools and web-based resources in educational settings to improve teaching and learning.

I have exceeded my expectations and discovered other goals in my Personal Growth Plan. Integrating the internet can help decide what type of technology to use with students and aids in determining whether or not its use is appropriate. One of the best aspects of this class was learning about ISTE NET. The parameters that the ISTE NET establish make it easier for educators to create purposeful lessons for students. The Personal Technology Plan was able to help me organize my approach and use of these different technologies, it helped me remember the realities and challenges that are faced. As my current goals have been accomplished, several new goals surfaced.
CEP 811 Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education.

Instructors:
Sandra Plair
Leigh Wolf
Application of instructional principles and methods to educational problems in the K-12 classroom. Development of technological applications which are interactive, multisensory, and innovative.

I am very proud of the work I’ve done and the growth I’ve achieved in this course. Although I’ve felt confident with the technology that we’ve used, I did my best to place my self, responsibly, in areas that I did not feel comfortable. First, Instructional Design. Second, my growth increased with Merlot. Third, the WebQuest and Web and Product Design. Fourth, Universal Design for Learning and Assistive Technology. Finally, with Web 2.0 and Online Learning, with my work, I was able to better understand how fast technology improves and how it affects the classroom.

Summer 2013

CEP 812 Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice.

Instructors:

Sara Beauchamp-Hicks

Melissa White

Leigh Wolf

Applications of technology in K-12 settings. Identification, implementation, and evaluation of technology-based solutions to educational issues in school settings.

In this course we investigated Innovation, a learning ethic of the 21st century. A look at post-modernism, globalization, neoliberalism, society and learning, and its relationship to school and classroom design and scheduling. Through this investigation we were able to establish how globalization and flexibility are the catalysts for the needed modification of schools. We also looked at how smarter we are in the way in which we work, act, and think,  and we can recognize the type of result we would like, thus allowing problem solving to become easier. I also learned that for teachers to be better prepared, grow, and excel as educators using technology required courses, professional developments, and workshops hosted face to face or through distance learning where they can work as individuals and/or in collaborative research while they are mentored and receive peer observation. Lastly, teachers must also be aware to how technology can help students with learning disabilities.

CEP 822 Approaches to Educational Research.

Instructors:
E. David Wong
Guofang Li
Alternative methods of educational research. Identifying researchable problems in education and developing a research proposal. Applications of descriptive and inferential statistics for analyzing and critiquing published studies.

We focused on how to navigate the use of descriptive and inferential statistics, thus providing us with the flexibility of dissecting published studies and findings. I engaged in a research problem, regarding school layout innovation. Through this research I discovered several things that modified my understanding of school layout design. First, most of the materials written about this topic are not by educators but by architects, who are consulting with educators. Second, more research needs to be done on the existing schools that are pioneering this topic. Third, the topic of school layout design needs to be standardized and under one umbrella.

Fall 2013

CEP 800 Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings.

Instructors:
Danah Henriksen
Learning as active, socially-mediated construction of knowledge in school, home, community, and work settings. What is learned, how it is taught and learned, and what learners bring to the setting.

In this course I focused on the power of audio and covered the topic of school and classroom layout. I also ventured in to collaboration with a Collaboration Storytelling where my students discovered that although we all know what collaboration is, we all have our own standard and "keys" to it.

CEP 820 Teaching Students Online.

Instructors:
Sandra Sawaya
Anne E. Heintz
Strategies for constructing and implementing online curricula aimed at students across their lifespan.

One of the projects I completed was a look at online learning, and I noticed that the standards for online learning are not standardized. Also, this course helped me re-affirm the fact that any educational tools must be attractive, must lend itself to be multitasking, and must be easy to use. Lastly, the critical pedagogical decision that I made was pertaining to the argument depth vs. breadth.

Spring 2014

CEP 807 Capstone in Educational Technology.

Instructors:
Mathew Koehler
Culmination of the Master of Arts in Educational Technology degree experience. Assessment and synthesis of educational technology knowledge and skill development.

In this course I had the chance to take a look at my entire masters program with new eyes, as I put together my capstone. In the process I rediscovered the aspects of education and technology that pushed me to obtain this degree. CEP 807 also gave me the chance to put the finishing touches on what I felt was a very rewarding academic experience by providing me with the opportunity to contact pervious classmates and professors and engage them in conversation as colleagues. I see this course as the platform that will help propel me towards my Ph. D.

CEP 815 Technologies and Leadership.

Instructors:
Joshua Rosenberg

Benjamin Gleason

Leigh Wolf
The examination of the complex charge of being responsible for managing relationships between technology, teaching and learning.

Through the course of CEP 815 I discovered what it takes to become a leader in all fields, especially in and out of the classroom when dealing with educations technology. What opened my eyes the most were the examinations into different leadership styles and understanding the identification of instrumental and missionary thinking, Overall, I know this class has helped converge my ideas, thoughts, and opinions into a cohesive vision that will propel me through the rest of my academic development.
